VetThisCarrier / how it works

How the check works

A public-data first screen with visible limits. Rules version 1.0.0.

1. Enter a number

The checker accepts an MC docket or USDOT number. Prefixes such as MC- and DOT are recognized. Company-name search is not part of this version.

2. Read the source record

The server requests FMCSA QCMobile data and caches successful results for 12 hours by default. A refresh asks for current data, subject to rate limits. Every report shows retrieval time and any source update date available.

3. Apply published rules

The rules look for an explicit prohibition on operation, out-of-service order, concerning authority status, published rating, recent registration date, zero power units and differing addresses. Missing fields do not trigger a negative finding. The 90 and 180 day windows are editorial prompts for closer review, not FMCSA standards.

What remains manual

This integration does not establish active insurance filings, coverage amount, cancellation dates, the identity of a caller, the actual truck and driver, or changes in profile over time. The report links to public lookups for direct confirmation. A blank result is never an endorsement.
